Biological Harm due to X-rays
Before discussing these limits, we need to understand more about the measurement of radiation.

Exposure is a measure of the ability of radiation to ionize air. We measure this in Roentgens and milli-Roentgens.

Absorbed Dose is a measure of the amount of energy per unit mass deposited in a material due to exposure to ionizing radiation

Effective or Equivalent Dose is a measure of the harm to biologic systems as a result of exposure to ionizing radiation.
