The term "Radiation" may be legitimately applied to any particle or energy eminating from a source. Microwaves, ultraviolet, visible and infrared light, x-rays, and nuclear emissions are all described as radiation.

Ionizing radiation from nuclear sources is regulated by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Ionizing radiation from x-ray sources is regulated at the provincial level by the Ministries of Health and Labour.
