Making X-rays
When an x-ray exposure is to be made, electrical current is sent through the filament, heating it red hot.
This emits electrons, which form a cloud around the filament.
When the filament is properly heated, high electrical voltage is placed between the filament and the target of the tube. Electrons have a negative charge, and are strongly attracted to the positively charged target.
