X-ray Generation

The X-ray Generator

The generator controls the voltage and current entering the x-ray tube, which in turn controls the intensity of the emitted radiation.

A critical part of the x-ray generator is the high voltage or high tension transformer. The transformer transforms and rectifies the incoming line voltage to deliver anywhere between 50,000 to 150,000 volts to the x-ray tube.

Dental units customarily use high voltages in the range of 60,000 to 90,000 volts.
